Watercolor on Arches
10.5" x 10.5" 2009
I am hungup on authentic things, things that last and were loved in the creation so much so they were painstakingly constructed to extend through generations of others who would love them too. And then, you live forever through other people's happiness.
This one was done specially for Stacy. Indeed it is political, done at the time everyone was realizing our brief window of opportunity was closing fast, if not already closed, as the first 100 days morphed into more of the same. Even as I write these words, it grows dorsal fins with stealth radar.

Thanks for putting it up, Madame.
But, its not the final one, is it. More searching, sifting, I know its around somewhere. If worse comes to worse, I will rephotograph. For you, it must be right. There is too much of you invested in this one for it to not be the best.
What is the name of that reddish/orange - am drawn to paint one of the kitchen walls in that colour.
Vermillion, mixed with Lemon Yellow and watered down a bit.
NOTA, its the right one, finally. Whew.
This one has the pressed tin so sweetly applied to the overhang.
I used my daughter's gift of gold ink to criss cross.
I hear muffled voices, a bit of music on a turntable bought from the fix-it shop down the street---they only have 2 records--but it's more than they had yesterday
A baby's crib, newly placed next to the bed of the young couple---
The toilet that never flushed right and the sweetness of watching the raindrops slowly descend on the smudged window glass--
Warm and above the fray--steam heat hissing reassuringly--
The embrace of craftsmanship lost--or perhaps abandoned--but strong enough for one more go-round...at least one more....

You're a real colorist... colors express things that can't even be put in words, as does music.
Very nice.
Thank you Publius! We've been waiting for you to climb into the treehouse. It seems to me that with so many posts to comment on, everyone gets a lot more attention. Its just more one on one over here.
the window was only brief because we blinked and never looked up...it's still there......are we?

Well, it took me a while to let my guard down.
Now I'm in the cubicle...
going up north tonight after work to the Canadian border area.
It's where I really want to be... in my solar shack, with a little barrel wood stove, small library and guitar. And yes, a few good records. That's why I'll need solar & wind: for the turntable and old tube amp. I'm a neo-Luddite who loves certain vintage technologies. I'm confused, bewildered and bewitched.
More art for later, I see....
Publius, something will happen, an opportunity will present itself, you will go there and develop survival skills to hand down to your little son. He will need them. It will all work out. You have nothing to worry over in this.
knock twice, then three times, then once...and then say the secret password
speakin' easy Nina's place has opened it's doors as all the others are shutting down......
